Below from the likes of Innokin, Vaporesso, Smok, Aspire and Vsavi, is there a definitive favourite? We will let you decide – as it always depends on your subjective preferences!

XEO Void Coils 0.6 ohm

Xeo Void Coils

Next up we have one of our bestsellers – the XEO Void coils, which are available in resistances of 0.6 Ohms and 1.0 Ohms. The former represents a direct lung or restricted direct lung vape depending on your favourite style while the latter offers a loose MTL draw.

The flavour is great with these - whichever resistance you go for - and pairs perfectly with a variety of freebase nicotine e-liquids, 100% VG or nic salts juices.

Smok RPM Coils

Smok RPM Coils

The Smok RPM and RPM2 coils have been game changers for years now and are still very popular in 2024! With so many resistances to pick from, based on the ease of use to add these as push-fit coils, we can understand why they are rated so highly!

Compatible with a range of kits from the Nord series made by Smok, they are a mixture of highly satisfactory Sub-Ohm coils and mouth-to-lung (MTL) coils if you want a loose or tight draw in a similar method to smoking.

While some Smok coils in the past burned out quickly because of the reliability of the tanks and pods tending to leak, this is not the case with the RPM series. They are some of the best coils for pod kits we know and do a fantastic job however you like to vape!

Aspire AF Mesh Coils 5 Pack

Aspire Flexus AF Coils

Made with a unique mesh design, the Aspire Flexus AF vape coil resistances are long-lasting and provide stellar flavour. Giving a vape hit as good as a disposable, there is a range of resistance to pick from for an MTL or RDL experience. Thanks to the good work from Aspire, the coil heat spreads more evenly to help prevent dry hits. Produced using organic cotton, the AF coil wicking ensures a reliable taste from start to finish, allowing the e-liquid to be fully saturated when primed.

Innokin Zenith Zlide Coils

Innokin Zenith Coils

Next up is the ever-popular Zenith coils, also referred to as the Z coils from the go-to brand for many, Innokin. Heating fast and producing the strongest of throat hits, the Zenith coils are made for mouth to lung vaping. The 1.6 Ohm coil advised at 10-14W is a particularly good coil from the range. Meanwhile, the 3D mesh 0.48 Ohm creates an excellent warm vape for a restrictive direct lung hit.

Vsavi Pro 3 Coils

Vsavi Pro 3 Coils

The Pro 3 coils are your classic mouth to lung style vape hit. At 1.2 Ohms, the resistance is high meaning a tight draw! Just as you would smoking, the technique is the same as holding the vapour in the mouth and releasing it back out. Very easy to install and produce a minimal amount of cloud production, they are a great first option coil after you quit smoking and change to vaping as a substitute.

geekvape z coils

Geekvape Z Coils

If you love big clouds, the Geekvape Z series of coils, including the new XM range, will be right up your street! With each coil, you should be able to get a couple of weeks' worth of use.

So, in a standard pack of five that represents great value. The throat hit is sharp on the higher resistance coils while the lower resistance coils are awesome for warmth, flavour and clouds. Also check out the IM and X2 coils for even bigger cloud-chasing coils!

With excellent build quality, they are a Sub-Ohm vapers dream. But bear in mind, these coils do go through e-liquid very quickly, so always keep a couple spare just in case.

Freemax GX and GX-P Mesh Coils

Freemax Mesh Coils

One of the top brands for coils is Freemax, with their mesh offerings like the GX Mesh and X Mesh coil collections. Both work with a wide range of Freemax Fireluke Sub-Ohm tanks. The GX mesh coils last a good amount of time while the X-Mesh boasts a double mesh design to enhance the flavour compared to traditional single-mesh coils. Either are top-notch for flavour and generate a fair amount of cloud production.

Horizontech Falcoln Legend M8 Replacement Coils

Horizontech Falcon Coils

Horizontech is not a household name for devices but they are a big brand that makes excellent coils and tanks! To enhance the flavour of your favourite e-liquids, the Horizon Falcon coils are top of the rankings for performance. Created for Sub-Ohm devices, the cloud production and warmth are fantastic and always reliable.

For use with a range of tanks, including the Falcon, the Falcon Legend and the Falcon King, the wicking is made with bamboo fibre and the mesh coil material draws a unique taste you do not get from other branded coils.

Please note: Always prime your coils i.e. a couple of drops added to the coil on the wicking material before vaping to prevent dry hits, preventing the chances of damaging your coils. Leave the vape juice to soak for 5-10 minutes to saturate the vape coil.

Vape Coil FAQs

Choosing the Right Vape Coil

The right coil for you depends on what your main aim is for vaping. We hope that you have landed on this page because you are an adult who is seeking an alternative to cigarettes and is hoping to quit. And the type of coil you pick depends on your habits and preferences.

Bear in mind that coils are made with different material types as well that provide varied features. For instance, a mesh coil has a larger surface area – meaning prolonged flavour intensity. Meanwhile, a Kanthal coil tends to have a faster ramp-up time and therefore more reliable. Ceramic coils create a crisper taste with your chosen e-liquid and stainless-steel coils heat up the fastest.

Sub-Ohm or MTL Coils?

If you want a similar sensation as you did smoking, with the same cloud performance and cooling feeling, you want to go for an MTL coil. This will help to keep the same habit and level of cloud and throat hit as you did with a cigarette (without tobacco)!

Alternatively, some vapers like to switch to e-cigarettes and want a completely different experience. The best way to do that is with a Sub-Ohm coil. A resistance below 1.0 Ohms will create more warmth, a bigger puff of vapour at faster speeds and plenty of flavour.

So, whether you pick a Sub-Ohm coil or an MTL coil depends on the sensation you hope to achieve. What we advise is aiming around the middle in terms of resistance, puffing with the style you like and tweaking the coil resistance to find the sweet spot.

Truthfully, there is not a huge difference unless you compare a very low Sub-Ohm resistance with a high MTL coil. A 0.4 Ohm and a 0.8 Ohm will not be drastically different but subtle.

How Many Ohms Should You Go For?

For huge clouds, aim below 0.4 Ohms. If you like a restrictive direct lung vape, go between 0.6 Ohms and 1.0 Ohms. Should your preference be a loose MTL draw, 0.6 Ohms to 1.2 is great and for a tight MTL draw go for anything above 1.0 Ohms – the higher you go the better the experience! And remember to stick to the recommended wattage based on the coil you pick, which will pair with the device of your choosing.
